EU students - Apply for housing through AU Housing

EU STUDENTS AARHUS

If you are a new student at AU and come from an EU member state, you can apply for housing through AU Housing. This includes rooms in dormitories and shared houses. Submit your application as soon as possible, and you will receive a response within a week. Applying is free, and you can decline a housing offer without any cost.

Please note that AU Housing and Student Housing Aarhus are two different organizations with separate terms.

AU Housing exclusively offers furnished rooms, and the rental contracts are temporary (up to 6 months).

Housing options

You can find information about our accommodations here.

Please note that most housing for the spring of 2025 has already been rented out, but there are a few available units here and there across the various dormitories and shared houses.

If you receive a housing offer for a location that is not your first choice, you can live there until you have enough seniority with Student Housing Aarhus to receive a better offer.

The different dormitories/shared houses have varying notice periods—typically 4–6 weeks, though some are 3 months. You can find information about notice periods and other practical details here.

Before you apply

Application

  • If you wish to apply for housing via AU Housing you have to fill in an online housing application. In order to do this, you first have to access https://mit.au.dk/ (Self-service system).

    • If you already have an AU ID, please use this as your user ID in order to log in.

    • If you don’t have an AU ID, please create an account in the Self-service system. Find directions on creating a Self-service account her

  • Once you have accessed the Self-service system, you can fill in your online housing application by using this application form: Erasmus Mundus, Joint programmes, Tuition paying students, Scholarship recipients and Full degree students
  • You will be asked about a contact person. Write: AU admission.
  • Only one person is allowed in a single room. If you need accommodation for two persons, you can apply for a one-bedroom apartment.
  • You can apply for accommodation for a maximum of 6 months. If you need to stay longer, we recommend that you sign up at the waiting list at www.studenthousingaarhus.com (the longer you are at the waiting list, the easier for you to get your preferred accommodation when your lease via AU Housing ends. Therefore it will be a good idea to sign up as soon as possible.)
  • A housing reservation via AU Housing requires that you have access to a payment card. You can't use the AU Housing service if you don't have/have access to a payment card. In that case you can instead look for housing options at the private market.

What happens next?

  • You will hear from us within a week.
  • If we can offer you a room, you will receive an email with the housing offer. You can find information about the offerered lease here.
  • Make sure that emails from housing@au.dk and housing@adm.au.dk don't end in your spamfilter. Change the settings in your inbox so it allows emails from these two addresses.
  • When you have received the email, you must confirm acceptance of the offered lease in the Self-service system within 2 days. Please find instructions on how to accept/decline here. In order to accept the offered lease you must pay the first month’s rent via an online card payment system, after which the room will be reserved for you. If we do not receive your payment and acceptance within 2 days, your housing offer will be cancelled. Therefore, it is important that you check your emails regularly.
