How to select courses

On this page you will find a step-by-step guide on how to select your courses and look up the course timetables to avoid overlaps.

Please read and follow the instructions in the steps below before sending in your course selection form!

Course Selection Step by Step

Step 1 - Before you select your courses

Carefully read the information on course selection at your faculty.

Make sure that you read the information on course selection in the subject area/programme that you have applied to.

You will find your subject area/degree programme in your Letter of Enrolment.

Step 2 - Find your courses

Search for relevant courses in the Course Catalogue.

You must select 30 ECTS courses in total, and you must take the majority of your courses at the degree programme/subject area you have applied to at Aarhus University.

To register for a course you must meet the academic prerequisites. You can find the academic prerequisites, if any, under each course in the course catalogue.

Step 3 - Check the course time tables

Check the timetables of the courses you are interested in via Timetable.au.dk to make sure the course schedules are not overlapping. If some of your preferred courses are overlapping, you need to find alternative courses.

You will find a guide on how to add timetables for course modules here.

We recommend that you log in to Timetable.au.dk to get the best overview of the course schedules. In order to log in to AU IT services, you must use AU's two-factor authentication. You can read about this process here

When searching for modules in Timetable.au.dk you must use their ‘STADS UVA CODE’ that you can find in the course catalogue.

As some courses only run in the first or second part of the semester, you should check for overlaps throughout the entire semester.

Step 4 - Submit your course selection form

Deadline for submitting the course selection form is 6 November 2024.

You must submit your course selection form in the Incoming portal.  Here you also need to log in using AU's two-factor authentication.

Before you can select your courses, we will ask you to identify your Stay and then choose your Faculty. You can find information on your Stay and Faculty in the email you have received about course selection.

Step 5 - We will screen your courses

Sit back and wait for us to screen your course programme.

You will hear from us:

  • by the end of May if you are going on exchange in the autumn semester
  • by the end of November if you are going on exchange in the spring semester

How to select courses in Danish

If you have the required Danish language qualifications, i.e. if you study Danish at an advanced level in your home country, or are from a Scandinavian country, it may be possible to choose courses taught in Danish.

You can see Danish taught courses available to exchange students here.

Danish taught courses are not included in the online course selection form, so please add course titles and UVA codes for such courses in the relevant part of your course selection form.

Can I register for less than 30 ECTS?

You may register for a minimum of 20 ECTS courses if this is approved by your home university.

To register for e.g. 20 ECTS you must:

  1. still choose 30 ECTS non-overlapping courses in the course selection form.
  2. send an email to your international coordinator at Aarhus University to let us know how many ECTS you want to register for in total.

If you are a non-EU student, you must register for 30 ECTS in order to be a full-time student and get a Danish residence permit.
