LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
As an exchange student at Aarhus University, you will attend courses that are taught in English. You will be expected to actively participate in class discussions, study groups and projects. You must also be able to write academic papers and take written exams.

Exchange students at Aarhus BSS are not required to document English language proficiency.
You are expected to have English language qualifications comparable to the English B level from the Danish upper secondary school (gymnasium). International qualifications comparable to this level are:
TOEFL test results (internet based test):
For test results achieved before January 21st 2026: 83 with a minimum score of 20 in all sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing
For test results achieved after January 21st 2026: 4.5 with a minimum score 4.0 in all sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing
Exchange students at the Faculty of Arts are generally (see exceptions below) not required to document English language proficiency but are expected to have English language qualifications comparable to the English B level from the Danish upper secondary school (gymnasium). International qualifications comparable to this level are:
• For results achieved before 21 January 2026: TOEFL test results with a minimum score of 83 will be approved. (internet based test)
• For results achieved after 21 January 2026: TOEFL test results with a minimum score of 4.5 will be approved. (internet based test)
• IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.5 points and equivalent to C1 level.
• C1 level obtained by examination from a CEFR-validated English language course
Exchange students who wish to apply for courses in the following degree programmes must provide valid documentation of their English C1 language proficiency level:
• Master/Bachelor's degree programme in English,
• Master/Bachelor Degree programme in International Business Communication in English
• Master's Degree programme in Intercultural Studies
Exchange students who are nominated by Aarhus University Department of English partner institutions or English degree programmes in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA and Ireland are exempted from these requirements.
Exchange students at Faculty of Health Sciences are not required to document English language proficiency.
You are expected to have English language qualifications comparable to the English B level from the Danish upper secondary school (gymnasium).

Applicants at the Faculty of Natural Sciences are required to upload proof of English language proficiency together with your application for admission.

If you receive your test result after the application deadline, you must upload your test result to your application no later than the documentation deadline 1 December for spring semester and 1 June for autumn semester.
