Exchange students at Aarhus BSS are not required to document English language proficiency.

You are expected to to have English language qualifications comparable to the English B level from the Danish upper secondary school (gymnasium). International qualifications comparable to this level are:

• TOEFL test results of at least 560 (paper based test) or 83 (internet based test)
• IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.5 points
• C1 level obtained by examination from a CEFR-validated English language course 

Exchange students at the Faculty of Arts are generally (see exceptions below) not required to document English language proficiency but are expected to have English language qualifications comparable to the English B level from the Danish upper secondary school (gymnasium). International qualifications comparable to this level are:

•    TOEFL test results of at least 560 (paper based test) or 83 (internet based test)
•    IELTS test with a minimum score of 6.5 points and equivalent to C1 level.
•    C1 level obtained by examination from a CEFR-validated English language course

Exchange students who wish to apply for courses in the following degree programmes must provide documentation of their English language proficiency:

•    Master/Bachelor Degree programme in English,
•    Master/Bachelor Degree programme in International Business Communication in English
•    Master Degree programme in Intercultural Studies

Exchange students who are nominated by Aarhus University Department of English partner institutions or English degree programmes at other universities are exempted from these requirements.

Exchange students at Faculty of Health are not required to document English language proficiency.

Applicants to any courses taught in Danish are expected to have Danish language qualifications comparable to C1 level. 

Applicants at the Faculty of Natural Sciences are required to upload proof of English language proficiency together with your application for admission.

You must upload

If you receive your test result after the application deadline, you must upload your test result to your application no later than the documentation deadline 1 December, 2024.

You must take one of the tests below, and the test result must be no more than three years old at the time of application.

• TOEFL: We accept TOEFL iBT and TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test. The minimum test score required is 83.
• IELTS: We accept the IELTS Academic test and IELTS online. The minimum overall band score required is 6.5 and equivalent of C1 level. Please be aware that B2 level is not accepted.
• Cambridge English Advanced with grades A, B and C or 180 points as a minimum on the Cambridge English Scale.
• Cambridge English First  with grade A or 180 points as a minimum on the Cambridge English Scale.

You are exempt from uploading an English test if:

• You are enrolled as a student at a university in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Scotland, or Ireland, Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, or Faroe Islands. 
• You are enrolled as a student at a university that is a CircleU partner. 
• You are currently enrolled in an English-taught Bachelor’s or Master’s programme. Please be aware that you must upload a letter of confirmation from your home university.

Applicants at the Faculty of Technical Sciences are required to upload proof of English language proficiency together with your application for admission.

You must upload
