Welcome to AU Summer University housing.
On this page, you will find everything you need to know about housing during your stay.
We will guide you through the process - from applying to moving out - so you can focus on learning new things, meeting new people, and making lasting memories.
Aarhus University is not a residential university, which means that the university does not own any student dormitories or other housing facilities. However, AU Housing has agreements with different student housing organisations and private property owners throughout Aarhus, and we can therefore offer housing service for AU Summer University students.
Please note that AU Housing handles the application process, housing allocating, keys, contract, furniture etc. while the housing organisations and private property owners are responsible for the electricity, water, heat, drains and the general condition of the residence.
If you have any questions regarding the housing services, please contact AU Housing.
AU Housing has agreements with different student housing organisations and private property owners throughout Aarhus, and we can therefore offer these types of housing:
You can read more about these types of housing as well as locations and facilities below.
*Please notice that studios have a higher price than the other housing types.
The most common housing type is single corridor rooms with shared kitchen and shared or private bathroom.
We also allocate shared apartments, where you will be sharing a kitchen and bathroom with another Summer University student of the same gender (unless both your and your fellow student both wish to stay together).
In addition to this, we can allocate some studios with private a kitchen and bathroom. In the student dormitories, you will stay with both Danish and international students.
Please note that gender-specific dorms do not exist in Denmark.
Be aware, that we do not offer catered housing. This means that you must do your own cooking, clean your own room and take part in cleaning the common areas with your fellow dormmates.
In a shared house you have your own bedroom and access to common areas such as a shared kitchen and bathroom.
Your housemates are all Summer University students, and the shared houses, therefore, provide you with a unique chance of making friends with students from all over the world.
Be aware, that we do not offer catered housing. This means that you must do your own cooking, clean your own room and take part in cleaning the common areas with your fellow housemates.
Both the dormitories and the shared houses are located throughout Aarhus, and you must therefore be prepared to spend some time and possibly money on walking, cycling and/or using public transport to get from your residence to your course location (generally a maximum of 40 minutes).
Find examples of locations here.
You can read more about the residences in the Summer University residence information.
Please note, that it is not possible to request a specific house or dormitory.

Please note: the fee percentage is subject to change.
The housing periods and prices are fixed, and they can therefore neither be shortened nor extended. You can move in and out on any date within the housing period, but you must pay the full price.
If you are only staying in Aarhus for a couple of weeks, it might make sense for you to find housing on your own. You can find relevant information under "Find housing in Aarhus on your own".
Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply for housing through AU Housing outside the official term dates. If your course is taking place outside these dates you must therefore find housing on your own. You can find relevant information under "Find housing in Aarhus on your own"
Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications after the deadline, as we have already received a high number of housing applications.
To ensure fairness, we priorities applications submitted on time, and late applications do not have realistic chances of receiving housing.
We therefore recommend that you begin looking into alternative housing options as soon as possible. You can find tips and recommadations here:
Before applying, please make sure to read about:
Please also make sure that your course is taking place in Aarhus within the official terms.
You can apply for housing through AU Housing when you have been accepted to an AU Summer University course.
In your acceptance letter you will find a link to a detailed guide on how to apply for housing.

The housing application deadlines are:
| First round (passed) | Thursday 16 April 2026 (at 12 noon CEST) |
| Second round | Tuesday 12 May 2026 (at 12 noon CEST) |
If you apply for a course before 17 March 2026 (at 12 noon CEST) you will receive the answer to your course application before the first housing application deadline.
We strongly encourage you to apply in the first housing application round if you have been accepted to a course before the first housing deadline. It does not affect your chances of getting housing. However, applying in the first housing application round allows us to begin the allocation and sending out offers.
Unfortunately, we often experience that emails sent from AU Housing – especially housing offers – are filtered into spam folders.
To ensure that you receive all emails from AU Housing, please add [email protected] to your safe senders list.
We recommend searching online for a guide specific to your email client – for example by using search terms such as “How to add safe sender in [your email client]”.
From the application deadline and until you receive a housing offer, we will send you a weekly status email to keep you updated on your housing application.
To help us process applications efficiently, we kindly ask you not to contact us for individual updates — unless you are not receiving the weekly status emails.
You can expect to receive an email with a possible housing offer in May 2026 (before 1 June).
We will also send you an email if we cannot offer you housing.
If you receive a housing offer from AU Housing, you must accept it by making an online payment with a payment card within 48 hours of receiving the offer.
Please note that paying the full amount — including the non‑refundable booking fee of 200 DKK — is the only way to accept the housing offer. We therefore encourage you to check your email regularly (including your spam folder) and to make sure you are able to complete the online payment at any time during May 2026. If the payment is not made within 48 hours, the housing offer will be withdrawn.
Once your payment has been processed, you will receive an online confirmation.
When you have accepted your housing offer, you can prepare your stay by reading the housing information specific to your residence.
Go to the Summer University Residence Information and use the search tool to find your residence website by entering the dorm name or address.
To avoid any surprises, make sure to read the information regarding:
