Housing Service

  • AU Summer University housing

In January 2025 this website will be updated with information about housing via AU Housing during Summer University 2025.

Housing prices are subject to change and will be updated in Spring 2025.

AU Housing offers housing services to international students participating in AU Summer University. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee housing for all participants, but we will do our best to provide you with either a housing offer or information about alternative housing options.

The website will continuously be updated with relevant information.

If you have any questions regarding the housing services, please contact AU Housing (housing@au.dk)

Housing options

Aarhus University is not a residential university, which means that the university does not own any student dormitories or other housing facilities. However, AU Housing has agreements with different student housing organisations and private property owners throughout Aarhus, and we can therefore offer these types of housing:

  • Room in a student dormitory
  • Studio in a student dormitory*
  • Room in a shared house

*Please notice that studios have a higher price than the other housing types. You can request a studio, but unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that you will be offered one.

You can read more about these types of housing as well as locations and facilities below.

Views
NB: it is not possible to request a specific house or dormitory.

Student dormitories

The most common housing type is single corridor rooms with shared kitchen and shared or private bathroom. We also allocate shared two-room apartments, where you will be sharing a kitchen and bathroom with another Summer University student. In the case of a shared two-room apartment, your roommate will be a student of the same gender (unless you and a fellow Summer University student both wish to stay together).

In addition to this, we can allocate some studios with private a kitchen and bathroom.

In the student dormitories, you will stay with both Danish and international students.

Shared houses

In a shared house you have your own bedroom and access to common areas such as a shared kitchen and bathroom.

Your housemates are all international students, and the shared houses, therefore, provide you with a unique chance of making friends with students from all over the world.

Locations

Both the dormitories and the shared houses are located throughout Aarhus, and you must therefore be prepared to spend some time and possibly money on walking, cycling and/or using public transport to get from your residence to your course location (generally a maximum of 40 minutes).

Find examples of locations here.

Facilities

All rooms are furnished with a bed, table, chair, lamp and some sort of storage. Kitchens are equipped with crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.

All residences have laundry facilities and internet access. NB: Please notice that in some residences you must bring or buy a network cable (LAN) to connect to the internet and bring or buy a router if you want to access the internet wirelessly (Wi-Fi). You will receive further information about the facilities if you receive a housing offer.

Be aware, that we do not offer catered housing. This means that you must do your own cooking, clean your own room and take part in cleaning the common areas with your fellow dorm- or housemates.

Note that gender-specific dorms do not exist in Denmark.

Fixed housing periods

The housing periods and prices are fixed, and they can therefore neither be shortened nor extended. You can move in and out on any date within the housing period, but you must pay the full price. If you are only staying in Aarhus for a couple of weeks, it might make sense for you to find housing on your own. You can find relevant information under the tab "Housing at the private market in Aarhus".

Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply for housing through AU Housing outside the official term dates. If your course is taking place outside these dates you must therefore find housing on your own. You can find relevant information under the tab "Housing at the private market in Aarhus"
