Managing Cyber Risk in Organizations

Information Security has become a fundamental necessity for businesses regardless of size and industry. This course will explore how businesses and individuals can protect themselves from cyber attacks. Further explorations of how AI tools can be used to mitigate cyber risk will be explored along with various uses of biometrics for identity proofing. Included in this course is a review of common exploits that have cost organizations millions of dollars in damages and methods for assessing the risk of cyber threats. Data privacy laws differ by country, impacting international business transactions. Students will explore various methods used for calculating and performing risk assessments; participate in hands-on exercises to demonstrate phishing mechanisms and password cracking; and explore prevention methods for protecting corporate, governmental, and individual assets.

In order to participate in the exam, there is an 11 days attendance requirement

Admission Requirements

Course specific:

To apply for the course you must either be enrolled in a bachelor's degree, have a bachelor's degree or have passed a qualifying entry examination.
It is a requirement to have taken a course in Financial Accounting.

General:

Laura Poe

Dr. Poe is the owner of DigiTek LLC, a technology management consulting firm that provides services to both public and private sector clients. She is a full-time professor of Information Systems and Cyber Security at Longwood University in Virginia, USA, and she teaches a variety of cyber security management seminars internationally. Dr. Poe has worked with corporations, such as Altria, Capital One, and Dominion VA Power in various technology leadership roles. Some of her research has been highlighted in magazines and includes software quality measurements in rapid delivery methodologies, biometric applications for fraud reduction, user perceptions with biometrics, growth mindset’s impact on student achievement, Agile as an instructional tool, sports data and agility, and data poisoning in AI learning models. In addition, she has previously served her community as a Councilwoman.
