Aarhus University Seal

What happens if you're not admitted?

  • How do I reserve an apartment when I'll only know whether I'm admitted on July 28th?
  • What happens if I reserve an apartment, but get rejected?

Your housing search and your application for admission are separate processes, so you need to consider them individually.

If you sign a lease agreement with a landlord or housing organisation, it is unlikely that they will accept you terminating the contract if you are not admitted to the university. Therefore, before signing a contract, you should investigate the terms and conditions for the specific rental property, including whether the landlord offers a cancellation policy and, if not, what the general notice periods are.

You should be aware that the many Danish students are in the same situation as you, and therefore, the housing market is competitive in August and September.

You can consider Basecamp as they offer a free cancellation if you are not admitted.

Student Housing Aarhus

What do I do, if I have signed a lease but am not admitted to the study program anyway?

If you do not need the accommodation anyway or if you are not admitted to the study program, even though you have already signed the lease, you must terminate the lease.
You’re still liable for the lease and are allowed to stay during the notice period – even if you haven’t been accepted into your study programme.
If possible, we will try to relet the accommodation.

When you terminate the lease, please make sure to attach the refusal from the educational institution (if you have one).
