What is a spin-out?

  • A spin-out company is a business established based on agreements with the institution (Aarhus University or Region Midtjylland) regarding the transfer of technologies and rights (ownership or licensing rights)
  • A spin-out can also be established based on agreements with a specific inventor to independently exploit a right in exchange for compensation to the institution.

Meet Three Spin-outs

Visblue Visblue was founded in 2015 to commercialize sustainable energy storage with a patented vanadium redox flow battery. The company is based on an invention originating from the Department of Engineering.
Radisurf The company's goal is to develop solutions for bonding different types of materials - for example, plastic and metal - materials that have proven challenging to bond with existing products. In the summer of 2021, the company was sold for 100+ million DKK.
VPCIR biosciences The company's primary product is an inexpensive and rapid method for tracking pathogens. A patent application has been filed for the underlying technology. The company is a spin-out from Aarhus University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
