Aarhus Festuge, first held in 1965, was originally launched in 1964 as an experiment to activate the city's institutions and associations, showcasing Aarhus' cultural profile and potential to the outside world. Over time, it has grown into an annual tradition.
The festival was founded on the belief that art, culture, and community are key to a city's thriving. Today, it is not only a local celebration but also attracts artists from around the world, with an international focus.
This year's theme, Mind The Gap, addresses the shared awareness of changes and differences in society.
When you visit, we hope Aarhus will look like the images you see on this website - late summer with golden colors, as autumn starts to make its way in. But, as always, you never know.
In September, the weather can be warm, cold, sunny, rainy, windy, or calm - sometimes all in one day. Be sure to bring a light jacket, a warm sweater, perhaps a beanie, and good walking shoes.
If you're heading to Gothenburg (for the EAIE conference), the climate there will be similar to that of Aarhus.
