Getting to Aarhus

Three possible options if you arrive by airplane:

  • Aarhus Airport, Tirstrup (AAR): Transportation time to the city of Aarhus is approximately 45 minutes by bus.
  • Billund Airport (BLL): The transportation time by bus is approximately one hour and a half to the city of Aarhus.
  • Copenhagen Airport (CPH): You can continue to Aarhus by domestic flight, train or bus. Flight time to Aarhus Airport is around 30 minutes, but train is often easier. The direct train from Copenhagen Airport to central Aarhus is about three and a half hours.

Trains in Denmark are operated by DSB. You can buy tickets online or in the ticket machines at each station. Tickets must be purchased before you get on the train. Get off at Aarhus H.

If you need to cross the country by bus you can use FlixBus.

Hotel

Aarhus offers a wide selection of hotels, ranging from budget-friendly hostels to luxurious accommodations. Depending on price and location, there are several great options in the city centre.

Trine's recommendations for budget-friendly hotels:

  • CABINN Aarhus (Budget hotel, well-located and comfortable)
    • Location: Centrally situated, within walking distance of the train station, the shopping centre Bruuns Galleri, and close to the main shopping street.
  • Wakeup Aarhus (Budget hotel, conveniently located and comfortable)
    • Location: Very centrally located next to the train station, Bruuns Galleri shopping centre, and the main shopping street.

Aarhus City and Festival

Aarhus Festival (Aarhus Festuge): 29 August - 7 September

Aarhus Festuge, first held in 1965, was originally launched in 1964 as an experiment to activate the city's institutions and associations, showcasing Aarhus' cultural profile and potential to the outside world. Over time, it has grown into an annual tradition.

The festival was founded on the belief that art, culture, and community are key to a city's thriving. Today, it is not only a local celebration but also attracts artists from around the world, with an international focus.

This year's theme, Mind The Gap, addresses the shared awareness of changes and differences in society.

What to Wear

When you visit, we hope Aarhus will look like the images you see on this website - late summer with golden colors, as autumn starts to make its way in. But, as always, you never know.

In September, the weather can be warm, cold, sunny, rainy, windy, or calm - sometimes all in one day. Be sure to bring a light jacket, a warm sweater, perhaps a beanie, and good walking shoes.

If you're heading to Gothenburg (for the EAIE conference), the climate there will be similar to that of Aarhus.
