The intended start date for this appointment is May 1st, 2025, or upon agreement.

Job description
As our technical/scientific glassblower, your main task is to provide specialized, custom-made glass apparatus to our research groups and laboratory teaching facilities.

The candidate is expected to:
  • Design, develop and produce new glass ware/prototypes for specific research applications in close collaboration with our research groups.
  • Ensure maintenance and repair of existing glass apparatus in our laboratories
  • Contribute to various other tasks related to the Department of Chemistry, depending on your competencies and the needs of the department.
Your daily leader will be Head of workshops, Prof. Mogens Christensen.

Your profile
Candidates are required to have a solid background as technical/scientific glassblower (e.g. educated as “glasapparatebauer/in” or similar), preferably with experience from academia or industry. You are experienced with both manual and mechanical glass processing. Your main tasks will be the development of new glass apparatus for research and teaching purposes as well as maintenance and repair of existing glass equipment.

In the development projects you will work closely together with both scientific and technical staff and will follow the project from idea to implementation. Here, you will be lead in the development of new glass apparatus designed and constructed by you, based on discussions with the individual researchers. Therefore, it is important to us that you can understand the needs and requirements and that you can develop possible solutions.

In addition to this, you will also conduct maintenance and repair of the existing glass apparatus in our laboratories. For the daily maintenance and repair, you will have dialogue with students and staff from various fields of research.

We offer a job opportunity in an ambitious and inspiring research and education environment with an informal atmosphere. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated team contributor with the competence to oversee their own tasks and maintain an organized approach. You appreciate engaging with colleagues across various roles, including scientific, academic, and technical-administrative staff. We anticipate that you can structure your time as well as significant tasks efficiently on your own.

You are proficient in English. Candidates who do not speak Danish, are encouraged to follow Danish courses.

We offer the opportunity to work in a distinguished scientific and educational environment and to support your development e.g. through courses and conference participation.

The workshops at the Department of Chemistry form a well-established team that employs four staff members and a trainee within mechanical and electrical engineering as well as the technical/scientific glassblower. Our new colleague will be the only glassblower in the team. Our glassblower for the past many years has recently retired. Hence, the glassblower workshop is already equipped and ready to use.

When applying for the position, please state the relevant techniques and glass types that you are experienced with.
