Starting Date and PeriodThe position is for 2 years with possible extension, and is available from May 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible hereafter.
Your profileApplicants should hold (or be expected to hold) a PhD degree in bioinformatics, machine learning, computational biology, statistical genetics (quantitative or population genetics), or related fields.
The ideal candidate will:
- be motivated to develop and apply novel computational tools for improving agriculture.
- have work experience in comparative genomics and/or machine learning techniques applied to biological sequence data.
- hold scientific publication records as first author, in relevant areas (bioinformatics, machine learning, computational biology, statistical genetics).
- be interested in collaborations with scientists across disciplines (e.g., quantitative geneticists and plant biologists) and levels (e.g., PhD students, technical staff).
- have effective communication skills in written and spoken English, for the presentation of their research to various audiences – from experts to the general public.
Who we areThe Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) is a major center for research and education in quantitative genetics and genomics at Aarhus University (http://www.qgg.au.dk/en). We conduct basic and applied research in animal, plant, and human genetics. Our focus areas include quantitative genetics, artificial intelligence applied to agriculture and medicine, population genetics, and integrative genomics. Research within QGG is characterized by a very close synergy between method development and application on practical problems across species, in collaboration with industry partners. QGG is an international research center with about 70 employees and visiting researchers from over 15 nations. What we offerThe successful candidate will be offered:
- training and international experience as a visiting scientist in a research group outside Denmark, for a duration of about 6 months.
- mentoring experience in collaboration with PhD student.
- computational resources, including the Genetics/Genomics High-Performance Cluster and GenomeDK, with growing capabilities (e.g., additional nodes, GPUs).

Application procedureShortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary rangeTechnical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
