The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the innovative Universitetsbyen invites applications for a dedicated laboratory technician. Join our inclusive laboratory and contribute meaningfully as a core member of a research team, mentored by Professor Simona Radutoiu.

We are at the forefront of researching plant-bacterial symbiosis with the goal of unlocking the full potential of both plants and bacteria to foster sustainable and climate-friendly agricultural practices. Our research focuses on understanding the intricate interactions between plants and bacterial communities is pivotal in current research and agricultural needs.

Your main role:

  • Perform molecular biology techniques, including in-silico cloning, genetic analysis, and quantification methods
  • In collaboration with researchers, design, perform, and analyze plant experiments, troubleshooting as needed
  • Manage lab databases, coordinate shipments, and handle purchasing and invoicing of consumables
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, provide IT support, and coordinate repairs
  • Teach methods to students and collaborate with researchers on protocol design and/or optimisation
  • Organize meetings with company representatives and manage external maintenance contacts
  • Ensure proper documentation of lab activities and maintain up-to-date databases
  • Adapt to diverse tasks ranging from bench work to administrative duties as needed
 

What we expect from you?

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-organized lab technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in both molecular biology research and maintaining smooth lab operations.

Molecular Biology Tasks:
You will contribute to cutting-edge projects involving genetic analysis and plant experiments, working with different plant species and developing new assays. The analyses are DNA-based and involve gene cloning, bacterial and plant transformation.

Your background in molecular biology will be essential as you perform advanced studies and contribute to scientific progress.

Lab Maintenance and Support:
In addition to your research contributions, you will ensure the lab runs efficiently by coordinating logistics, handling purchases, processing invoices, and interacting with company representatives. Your organizational skills and attention to detail will help maintain lab functionality and ensure that lab processes from computational to experimental run smoothly.

Who are we?

The Plant molecular biology section's activities focus on genetic, molecular and biochemical research in the model plant Lotus japonicus as well as several crop plants such as barley, maize and wheat.

The research seeks to elucidate and understand the mechanisms behind genetic control of signal transduction, cell differentiation, developmental processes, local adaptation and plant-microbe interactions. Key research areas include symbiotic nitrogen fixation, plant perception of microbial signaling molecules, susceptibility to pathogens and colonization by symbiotic and endophytic bacteria/fungi.
