Two-step – what?

Two-step authentication adds an extra layer of protection when you log on to a system or service. Most VPN connections to the university will require two-step authentication in future. If you use a VPN, you can register for two-step authentication at mit.au.dk.

Most VPN connections to AU will require two-step authentication from Tuesday, 6 March. This means that when you connect via a VPN in future, you will have to log in with your AU ID and password and then accept your login with an app on your smartphone called NetIQ.

How to register

You can register for two-step authentication at mit.au.dk, where you will see a step-by-step guide to the signup process.

To register, you have to use:

  • your work computer with access to the AU network
  • a smartphone – you can use your own phone if you do not have an AU phone. The service is free.
  • your NemID.

If you are already using two-step authentication for your VPN connection, you still have to register at mit.au.dk. This is because AU IT has decided to implement a new platform to replace the existing systems for handling two-step authentication.

Two-step authentication is not currently available for access to AU Access via a VPN.

Avoid unsuccessful VPN connection

Most VPN connections will require two-step authentication from 5 March onwards. If your VPN requires two-step authentication, a message will be displayed when you try to connect. AU IT recommends that you register by 5 March so that you will still be able to connect via a VPN after 5 March when you are working at home or abroad, for example.

The small print

If you need a VPN connection in your capacity as an employee but do not have a smartphone or a NemID, or if you are unable to register for two-step authentication at mit.au.dk due to being abroad, please contact your local IT support team. Find contact information.

What is two-step authentication?

Two-step authentication is one element that is being introduced for compliance with the rules in AU's information security manual. Essentially, two-step authentication adds an extra layer of protection when you log on to a system or service. Many people are already familiar with two-step authentication from Google, Apple, Facebook, etc. Two-step authentication has gradually become standard for many of the services that we use online.

What is VPN?

The intended purpose for VPN connections is that you can access some of AU' services even when you are not at AU, at home for instance. Some services are not accessible from outside AU.

Kontaktboks 1

Kontaktoplysninger vises i selve boksen.
