AU congratulates its Olympic athletes
Aarhus University congratulates the seven AU students who participated in the Olympic games on their excellent performances in Rio.
“I am very impressed by the fantastic, dedicated effort our students have made at the Olympic Games in Rio. Just being selected to participate in the world’s largest sporting event is a huge achievement, and Aarhus University is proud to have had seven students at the Olympic Games in Rio,” says Rector Brian Bech Nielsen.
The seven Olympic athletes and AU students are:
- Sara Slott-Bruun Petersen, silver medal, athletics (400M hurdles) – Master’s degree student, sport science
- Anne-Marie Rindom, bronze medal, sailing (Laser Radial - one person dinghy women) – Bachelor’s degree student, sport science
- Michael Møller Hansen, sailing (Laser - one person dinghy men)– Master’s degree student, mechanical engineering
- Lærke Buhl Hansen, sailing (RS:X - windsurfer women) – Bachelor’s degree student, mechanical engineering
- Jonas Warrer, sailing (49er - skiff men) – professional Master’s degree student, rhetoric and communication (holds BA from AU in political science)
- Nina Hollensen, rowing (double sculls (2x) women) – Master’s degree student, medicine
- Simone Tetsche Christensen, cycling BMX – Bachelor’s degree student, medicine
The Paralympic Games will begin on 7 September in Rio. Swimmer Niels Korfitz Mortensen will be participating, who is studying information and communication technology at AU. Aarhus University wishes Niels the best of luck at the games.
