Aarhus University’s three new English-taught IT bachelor’s programmes have attracted an impressive 515 first-priority applicants for their initial application round.

This is the result after the 15 March deadline for international applicants to the university's English-taught bachelor's programmes passed a few days ago.

“Denmark and Aarhus are attractive study destinations, and these numbers show that we have a strong foundation for recruiting international students in fields where there is also high demand for skilled workers,” says Pro-Rector Berit Eika.

She highlights that the three IT programmes have seen an exceptionally high number of applications from other EU countries.

“It makes a lot of sense to admit international students at the bachelor's level because it gives us more time to integrate them into Danish society and the labour market. That’s why we also strongly wish to have more English-language study spots in our bachelor's programmes,” she elaborates.

The Department of Computer Science offers BSc degrees in Computer Science and IT Product Development. Kaj Grønbæk, Head of the Department of Computer Science, is overwhelmed to see the interest of international students.

“We are very pleased to see such high numbers of applicants in the launch year of our international programmes. This huge interest emphasises the global appeal of our programmes and our international academic recognition. We are excited to welcome all the new students,  and I’m sure that Industry and IT businesses in Denmark are as happy as we are to receive new well-educated IT-specialists,” he states.

The Department of Mathematics offers the BSc degree in Data Science. Head of Department Jacob Schach Møller is also excited by the growing international interest.

“We just had the first international students joining our MSc in Data Science a few years ago. It will be great to also accept many international students into our BSc programme and we are very excited to see such a huge interest in the programme.”

Among the applicants, the BSc in Computer Science has emerged as the most popular programme, receiving 345 first-priority applications. The BSc in Data Science follows with 100 first-priority applications, while IT Product Development has received 70 first-priority applications. In total, the three programmes received 1,679 applications across all priority levels.
