The Society for Medical Student Research to host a large congress

For the eighth year in a row, the Society for Medical Student Research (SMS) at Aarhus University welcomes students and others to a four day congress at which more than 120 medical students from all over Denmark will have the chance to present their research results.

The congress will be held between 17 -20 March 2016 at Sinatur Hotel Storebælt in Nyborg, Denmark. The congress aims to provide student researchers with the opportunity to present their research in an academic forum. The students also have the chance to establish networks and find inspiration for future research projects.

The programme for the congress consists of short lectures given by the students and posters. Leading senior researchers within the fields in question then assesses these. There are also carefully selected, relevant academic presentations.

Talent development in research up for debate

One of the academic presentations is entitled "How do we ensure the development of talent in research, and what can we learn from the worlds of business and industry and sport?” Ove Bech Ovesen, who is responsible for the graduate programmes at Novo Nordisk, and Claus B. Hansen, Denmark’s U19 national coach and head of talent development at the Danish Handball Association, will share some of their experiences of talent development.

The two speakers will then participate in a panel discussion with the title “What is a talent, what can we learn from others, and how do we strengthen future talent development in medical research?”. The panel will also include Dean of the Faculty of Health Allan Flyvbjerg, Vice-dean for Talent Development Lise Wogensen Bach, and former winner of the Lundbeck Foundation Talent Award, MD, PhD and Associate Professor Søren Dinesen Østergaard, all of whom are from Aarhus University.
