The Research Foundation celebrates 75 years with a big party for the whole city in the new University City
On 31 August, the Aarhus University Research Foundation is throwing a party for the entire city at the former municipal hospital, which will soon be transformed into the University City. The Foundation has been supporting research at Aarhus University for 75 years, and this will be celebrated with lectures, walks in the old hospital and live concerts, including a concert by the rising Danish star: Hjalmer.
This year, the Aarhus University Research Foundation is celebrating 75 years of supporting research at Aarhus University, and the foundation and wants to mark the occasion. Therefore, in collaboration with the Alexandra Institute, the Danish University Extension and Culture Works, the Foundation invites the people of Aarhus to participate in a huge party at the former municipal hospital, which will begin its transformation into the University City in 2019.
"Research and innovation are two of the most important elements in solving the challenges facing society. So we want to include the citizens of Aarhus and celebrate our anniversary together with them," says Jørgen Lang, managing director of the Aarhus University Research Foundation.
Explore, discover, experience
The programme for the anniversary celebration is based on three categories that constitute the essentials of research: explore, discover, experience. The Danish University Extension will handle the exploration aspect, and will organise many exciting lectures by different researchers during the day.
The discoveries consist of a look into the past through walks that include a visit to the old hospital basements as well as a look into the future in the form of an augmented reality simulator that can take you to the new University City. The experiences consist of several live concerts, including one by the rising Danish star, Hjalmer, who has flown directly to the top of the Danish charts and into the hearts of the Danes.
It has been important to design a programme that combines research with a festive aspect, Jørgen Lang explains.“Research is based on an element of curiosity, and so we wanted to give the public the opportunity to explore research at the celebration.”
The event will include a variety food stalls where you can get lunch at reasonable prices, and there will also be plenty of opportunities to quench your thirst.
