Researcher from Aarhus new chair of the Danish Endocrine Society

Professor and Consultant Troels Krarup Hansen from AU and AUH has been elected the new chair of the Danish Endocrine Society.

The more than 700 members of the Danish Endocrine Society (DES) have a new chairman. Troels Krarup Hansen was elected to the post at the society’s general meeting at the beginning of May.

The new chair is professor in diabetic complications at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and works as consultant at the Department of Medical Endocrinology and Internal Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital.
Troels Krarup Hansen is looking forward to getting to grips with the post.

"I’m looking forward to continuing our progress and to promoting the national treatment guidelines within endocrinology that we have developed over the past five years. As chair of the society, I will also work to strengthen our postgraduate study programme, so that we can continue to train many skilled endocrinologists," says the newly appointed chair.

He anticipates an exciting but also challenging time.

"There really is a lot going on in the field of diabetes today. The establishment of more Steno Diabetes Centres creates both opportunities and challenges. There is also a worry within the society about a risk of being split into a group of diabetes doctors and a group of other types of endocrinology doctors. I will work to ensure that we avoid such a split," he says.

Troels Krarup Hansen is 49-years-old and has previously been a member of the society’s board for four years, including two years as vice-chair and the last year as president elect. He has been acting chairman since 2 May.
