Pain researcher becomes professor at Aarhus University
Nanna Brix Finnerup has been appointed professor at Aarhus University. Here she will continue her pain research at the Danish Pain Research Center.
Neuropathic pain, pain physiology and treatment are main areas in Nanna Brix Finnerup's research. She has now been appointed professor of pain research at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University.
"The research bridges the gap between basic physiology, experimental pain research and the clinic. I will focus on chronic neuropathic pain, which occurs after damage to the nervous system," says Nanna Brix Finnerup, who has a special focus on understanding the mechanisms for the development of chronic pain.
She hopes that the research can contribute to optimizing diagnostics and improving treatment, among other things by carrying out clinical trials.
"In the longer term, our research will benefit patients with chronic pain, for example patients with neuropathic pain due to diabetes or chemotherapy, patients with chronic pain following trauma or surgery, spinal cord injury or other illnesses, which may give rise to chronic pain", says Nanna Brix Finnerup.
She is pleased that the professorship provides her with the opportunity to continue supporting the training of young researchers and expanding the interdisciplinary research environment of the Danish Pain Research Center.
