Now it’s time to update your Mac computer

Since May, IT support and AU IT have been busy updating employees’ Windows computers. The aim is to ensure a modern IT platform while improving IT security at the university. Now the time has come for those employees with a Mac computer. So, if you have a Mac, please read the following.

Before the end of the year, all employees’ computers (Mac, PC and Unix/Linux) must be registered with AU IT’s central management and moved to the university’s joint domain/UNIAD, called uni.au.dk. When a computer is part of central management at AU IT, you will automatically receive a message when it is time to update the operating system and standard applications. Regular updates ensure, among other things, a high level of IT security, which is a big improvement for the individual – while also minimising the risk of an attack spreading at the university.

Updating your Mac can be done in one of two ways:

  1. If your Mac is registered with AU IT, during the autumn you will automatically see a pop-up on your screen asking you to update your operating system. You can choose when you want to carry out the update. However, there will be a deadline, after which the update is carried out automatically.
  2. If your Mac is not registered with AU IT and has therefore not been moved to uni.au.dk, the operating system cannot be updated automatically via a pop-up window. You will therefore need to take your Mac along to IT support.

Please contact your local IT support to book a time to get your Mac registered and updated. You will find contact information at au.dk/en/au-it/

To staff members at ST: At the moment, IT support at ST is focusing their ressources on updating thousands of Windows computers. Therefore, they will only be able to update Mac and Unix/Linux to a limited extent.

How to find out whether your Mac is registered

To find out whether your Mac computer is registered with AU IT, open Finder and choose the Applications folder. If your Mac is registered with AU IT, you will be able to find the Managed Software Center in this folder.
