New professor with an eye for eye diseases
Associate Professor from AU Thomas Juhl Corydon takes up the position of professor of ocular gene therapy at Aarhus University on 1 March 2017.
The new professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine and the Department of Biomedicine conducts research into gene therapy that focuses on eye diseases such as Age-Related Macular Degeneration in the retina (AMD) and other eye diseases caused by diabetes.
In gene therapy, genomes are transferred to selected cells in the eye to avoid the factors which cause the disease. The genes being transferred must replace the defective genes or reduce undesired factors.
Thomas Corydon's research can advance our understanding of AMD and complications affecting the eye that are related to diabetes. He hopes to be able to use his research experience in the treatment of patients with these diseases.
