New breast cancer professor will sharpen focus on radiation therapy
Birgitte Vrou Offersen from Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital is new professor of breast cancer treatment.
The newly appointed professor Birgitte Vrou Offersen has one overriding goal for her research: She wishes to develop and optimise the treatment of breast cancer patients. Birgitte Vrou Offersen's ambition is for it to be possible in the long term to individually advise a breast cancer patient about her own benefit and damage from a given cancer treatment, including radiation therapy.
In her research Birgitte Vrou Offersen examines and documents factors such as which breast cancer patients benefit greatly from radiation therapy and which can do without it. She also works to reduce the length of radiation therapy treatments and to improve their quality through increased focus on quality assurance.
