International expert heads new Research Centre for Patient Involvement

Aarhus University strengthens research in medical decision-making and its application by appointing Hilary Louise Bekker as professor and lead of the newly established Research Centre for Patient Involvement. Here, she is to promote patient involvement interventions and research in collaboration with Aarhus University Hospital and the Central Denmark Region.

Making good decisions about medical treatments is hard, and helping someone else make the right decision for their daily life is even harder. Nonetheless, this is exactly how Professor Hilary Louise Bekker uses her decision science expertise.

The new professor collaborates with health professionals, patients and health service researchers to understand and support people’s health decisions and is internationally recognised for her patient decision aid resources and research.

Hilary Louise Bekker leads the inter-professional research centre in collaboration with Associate Professor and Deputy Lead Lotte Ørneborg Rodkjær. Together, they and their colleagues aim to enable health professionals, methodologists and patient-led organisations scale-up the design, implementation and evaluation of patient involvement interventions in Denmark.

Alongside her professorship in Aarhus University, Hilary Louise Bekker continues her affiliation with the Institute of Health Sciences, School of Medicine at the University of Leeds.
