Health's honours programme gets a new programme director

Jasper Nijkamp from the Department of Clinical Medicine will define Health’s honours programme in the future. As newly appointed programme director, he will have the academic responsibility for the two-year honours programme which is aimed at the faculty's most talented students.

Associate Professor Jasper Nijkamp from the Danish Centre for Particle Therapy has 16 years of experience of research and innovation in health technology. He is a former Novo Nordisk Biomedical Design Fellow, and works in the interface between oncology, surgery and digital imaging at the Department of Clinical Medicine. From 1 May this year, Jasper Nijkamp is also programme director for the faculty's honours programme.

"Jasper Nijkamp is a bridge builder. He has many years of experience with teaching and research in an interdisciplinary and international environment, and his career transcends national boundaries, subject areas, the clinic and the university’s yellow buildings. He has a solid foundation in the innovative environments at Health and knows the talent programme as a lecturer. Jasper is a really good match for the talent programme and the right choice as programme director," says Vice-dean for Education Lise Wogensen Bach.

Programme director in a time of upheaval

The faculty's honours programme has previously had two tracks: one research-oriented and one business-oriented. From the autumn semester 2021, it will have a new format. The two tracks will be merged into one course, while the programme will be further developed so that the students experience a more coherent link between research and innovation – and get the strongest competences from both worlds. The target group remains particularly talented and highly motivated students.

As programme director, Jasper Nijkamp's task is to develop, implement and run the new honours programme. A challenge he is looking forward to.

"I'm very motivated. The students who apply for the honours programme are eager to learn and willing to invest in their future. I want to develop an honours programme that supports their academic development and provides them with the core competences to prepare them in the best possible way – regardless of which career path they subsequently choose. I’m looking forward to working with the team and with our students and not least seeing their talent unfold itself during the two-year programme," says Jasper Nijkamp.

Health's new, merged honours programme comes into force with the autumn 2021 admissions. Students on the current honours programme (the 2019 and 2020 admissions) will not experience any changes to the programme they applied for.
