The project is based on one of the world's largest collections of human brains previously located in Aarhus, in 2018 transferred to the University of Odense, and on human blood/saliva samples from depressive patients and control subjects available via collaborative partner Professor Gitte Moos Knudsen, Rigshospitalet (Neuropharm).

The overall objective of the project is to identify biomarkers that can be used in connection with faster and better diagnoses of depression as well as for the development of new therapeutic strategies which may eventually lead to more optimal treatment.
