Graduate programme in Clinical Medicine in 2011
Department of Clinical Epidemiology will play an important role in a new graduate programme titled Clinical Medicine. The programme, which was recently approved by the Faculty of Health Sciences at Aarhus University, will be lead by Troels Krarup Hansen, PhD, a senior physician at the Department of Endocrinology. The programme’s Steering Committee will include representatives from Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Aarhus University Hospital, the pharmaceutical industry, and PhD students.
The program will provide its PhD aspirants with rigorous training in clinical research, including planning, funding, designing, conducting and reporting of epidemiologic studies. The program-specific coursework will cover clinical trials; screening and diagnosis; prognostic studies; registry-based research; and meta-analysis. The majority of the courses will be led by researchers at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology. Long-term plans include elective courses with invited national and international experts, student seminars, workshops on research funding and oral presentation, and summer schools in cooperation with the graduate program in Public Health.
The official launch of the program is planned for 1 January 2011. Current PhD students who wish to transfer to the new program will have an opportunity to do so in October 2010. The transfer must be approved by the student’s supervisor.
