Epidemiologist new professor at AU and AUH
John Acquavella has just been appointed professor at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital. He conducts research into how frequent diseases with significance for public health are seen, factors that are associated with increases or decreases of these diseases, and how effective the treatment of these diseases is.
How often do specific diseases occur among the population, and what factors influence how the diseases are distributed? This is the focus of John Acquavella’s research. He has just been appointed professor at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital.
"The Department of Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University Hospital is well known and respected around the world. I'm honoured to be part of the department. After 30 years working in the private sector, I look forward to making use of my experience in teaching, advising students and working with my colleagues on the faculty," says John Acquavella.
John Acquavella’s field of research is clinical epidemiology. He studies how widespread certain diseases are – whether there is talk of an epidemic. In his research, John Acquavella studies the frequency of diseases that have significance for public health. These are diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic conditions. He conducts research into the factors that influence the incidences of these diseases among populations.
"But we also focus on efficiency and safety during the development of medical treatments of these diseases, and on the utilisation of these treatments in clinical practice," he explains.
The research aims to prevent, relieve or cure some of these serious diseases, and to benefit patients, doctors, governmental regulatory agencies and researchers within the healthcare sector.
John Acquavella has a PhD in epidemiology from State University of New York at Buffalo. He has worked in the private pharmaceutical and life sciences industries for the past 30 years.
