Breast cancer researcher is new professor and chair at Aarhus University
Signe Borgquist to take up the position of clinical professor and chair in oncology at Aarhus University on 1 November.
Signe Borgquist will return to Aarhus when she takes up a position as clinical professor and chair at Aarhus University on 1 November. She grew up in Aarhus before moving to Lund in Sweden as part of her medical degree programme. Her she remained for 15 years at the university hospital in Lund, where she has had breast cancer as her primary clinical and research area.
While working in Lund, Signe Borgquist has focused on the roles that obesity and elevated cholesterol levels play in the progression of the disease among women with breast cancer. The aim has been to achieve a deeper understanding of the development of breast cancer, so that his can hopefully help to reduce the risk of contracting the disease.
As clinical professor and chair, Signe Borgquist will have overall responsibility for research and for the teaching of students within the speciality medical area of oncology. Department Head Kristjar Skajaa from the Department of Clinical Medicine is pleased that the new professor and chair has been found externally.
"With Signe Borgquist we have succeeded in bringing a real expert in the field to Aarhus, and the fact that the best qualified applicant is a woman just makes it extra pleasing," says Kristjar Skajaa, with reference to the unequal gender distribution among the professors and chairs at the Department of Clinical Medicine.
