AU associate professor to defend his higher doctoral dissertation on epilepsy
On 3 June, Jakob Christensen will defend his doctoral dissertation. The dissertation is the culmination of several years spent studying incidences, causes and consequences of epilepsy.
Jakob Christensen is consultant at the Department of Neurology at Aarhus University Hospital and clinical associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University. In April he received a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to allow him to continue the research that has now been realised in a doctoral dissertation.
The dissertation is based on seven different epidemiological studies in which Jakob Christensen has analysed data from Danish clinical databases and national health and administrative records. By collating the mass of data, he has succeeded in describing the incidence of epilepsy in Denmark and establishing possible causes of epilepsy and the consequences that the disease has.
Jakob Christensen believes that the research will help reduce the increased mortality that is otherwise associated with epilepsy. At the same time, he and other researchers will continue to combine data from registers and biobanks, thus developing epilepsy medicine that has fewer side effects and greater effect.
Jakob Christensen will defend his higher doctoral dissertation at 14:00 on 3 June 2016 in the Small Anatomic Lecture Theatre.
