Are you thinking of travelling abroad during the summer holidays?
If you are, you should be aware that AU requires you to enter a 14-day period of quarantine without pay upon returning from areas where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark advises avoiding all non-essential travel.
Normally, Aarhus University does not interfere in where you go on holiday. This is also the case this year, although there may be financial consequences if you travel to one of the countries in which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark advises avoiding all non-essential travel.
14-day quarantine at your own expense
If you ignore the authorities’ recommendations and travel to a high-risk area, you must enter quarantine for 14 days after returning home. As a general rule, the quarantine is without pay.
This means that if the quarantine period extends beyond your planned holiday, the days in question will be deducted from your salary, unless you have made an agreement with your immediate supervisor in advance that you can work from home during the quarantine period.
No pay during illness
If you contract COVID-19 during a trip to one of the countries which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark advises against travelling to, this will be considered self-inflicted illness and the right to pay during illness will therefore lapse. If you become ill with COVID-19 during the quarantine period, any agreement about working from home will also lapse.
You are welcome to contact your HR Partner, if you are unsure about your situation.
