Aarhus has a new Doctor of Medical Science specialising in traumatic experiences

Jaimie Lorenne Gradus, associate professor and new recipient of a higher doctoral degree at Aarhus University Hospital and Aarhus University, carries out research into how both physical and mental health is affected in people who have been exposed to serious, stressful and traumatic events.

On 14 September 2018, Jaimie Gradus from Boston University and the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital defended her higher doctoral dissertation. Jaimie Gradus has examined how stressful and traumatic experiences and psychiatric disorders related to these subsequently affect people's physical and mental health. Among other things, she has examined the mortality rate among this group of patients with particular focus on suicides.

Jaimie Gradus' epidemiological research gives researchers and clinicians insight into the potential negative consequences of stressful, traumatic events. Against this background, in the longer term it will hopefully be possible to develop preventive interventions that can be used for people suffering from stress.
