Aarhus gets Denmark's first professor of patient safety
Consultant Alma Becic Pedersen from Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital has been appointed as professor of patient safety – the first of its kind in Denmark. She conducts research into complications after orthopaedic surgery.
Professor Alma Becic Pedersen carries out research into postoperative complications. She studies complications such as bleeding, blood clots, infections, acute kidney damage, reoperations and death, all of which can occur after orthopaedic surgery.
With her new professorship, Alma Becic Pedersen will establish an international surgical patient safety research group. She aims to create a strong environment for students, biostatisticians and clinicians in a national and international collaboration in order to strengthen clinical epidemiology and patient safety. The aim is better and more targeted prevention and treatment of postoperative complications.
