The award was established in 1956 to mark Carl Holst-Knudsen’s 70th birthday. For several years, Carl Holst-Knudsen played a very important role in establishing Aarhus University. From 1933 to 1956, barrister Carl Holst-Knudsen was chairman of Aarhus University as well as the University and City Liaison Committee. He was involved in establishing Aarhus University from the very beginning in 1928, when he was a member of Århus City Council and was elected as one of the council’s representatives on the board of the University Teaching in Jutland.

The award includes a DKK 50,000 cash award.

This year, the Aarhus University Research Foundation PhD Award will be conferred for the fourteenth time. Five PhDs have been selected to receive additional recognition for their efforts.
