Data Visualization and Storytelling for Business

The sheer amount, speed and variety of data available to business today can either overwhelm or drive breakthrough decisions crucial to business success and growth. Data visualization is a multidisciplinary discipline that provides the knowledge and skills necessary to transform data (big and small) into fuel for effective decision making through the powerful medium of telling stories with data. This course is a hand’s on introduction to the latest data visualization techniques and tools organized around key topics, such as:

  • The context of data visualization
  • Data quality and preparation for visualization
  • Visual analytics
  • Design for user-oriented visualizations based on essential cognitive and perceptual principles
  • Preparing interactive dashboards and data stories that effectively communicate data insights to facilitate managerial decision-making.

The grade for the course consists of two parts:

  • Coursework counting app. 40 %
  • 3-hour written exam counting app. 60 %

The written exam is online and presence in Aarhus is not nescessary.

Admission Requirements

Course specific:

To apply for the course you must either be enrolled in a bachelor's degree, have a bachelor's degree or have passed a qualifying entry examination.

Students are expected to have a basic knowledge of descriptive statistics and some experience with Excel or other spreadsheet program. Programming experience is not required.
