Postdoc in molecular microbial ecology at the Department of Bioscience, Aarhus University, Denmark 1012654

Applications are invited for a 14-month postdoctoral scientist position to study the distribution and diversity of Asgard archaea in Aarhus Bay sediment. The latest starting date is February 1st 2019.

We seek a highly motivated candidate with an academic background and documented experience in molecular microbial ecology research. Experience with fluorescence in situ hybridization techniques is preferred. The candidate should investigate the taxonomic diversity of Asgard archaea in Aarhus Bay sediments and design fluorescence in situ hybridization probes for their detection, visualization and subsequent sorting by fluorescence activated cell sorting. The candidate will work under the supervision of associate professor Kasper Urup Kjeldsen and professor Andreas Schramm, and collaborate with students and external collaborators at Uppsala University.

The successful candidate will be employed by the Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University (http://bios.au.dk/en) and be a part of the Section for Microbiology at the Department. Research at the section integrates microbiological, molecular biological and biogeochemical methods to study the microbial ecology of natural and man-made environments (www.bios.au.dk/microbiology).

Qualifications must include:
- Relevant university education and PhD degree.
- Solid background in molecular microbial ecology including DNA/RNA-based and microscopic techniques.
- Ability to work and collaborate in a group, to develop new ideas, and to write and communicate in English.

Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
