Connie Hedegaard holds a Master’s degree in history and comparative literary history and was first elected to the Danish Parliament in 1984 for the Conservative People’s Party. In 1990 she decided to leave Parliament to work as journalist instead. First at the Danish daily Berlingske Tidende, and subsequently as head of Radio News, Radio Denmark (DR) and host of the DR2 news programme Deadline. IN 2004, she was appointed Minister of the Environment, and in 2007, she became Minister for the Climate and Energy in 2007.
She served as the EU’s first climate action commissioner from 2010 to 2014. In 2015, she will take up a new post as chair of the board of the Kann Foundation, a new international climate foundation.
Ms Hedegaard has written a number of books on climate change and has received numerous awards, including Publicistprisen from the National Press Club of Denmark in 2003.
