Commercialisation at AU

Commercialisation is about bringing research from the university into society.

Under the two tabs below you will find information regarding commercialisation at Aarhus University for both researchers and companies.


For Researchers

The process of commercialising an invention can be very diverse, but usually follows these steps:

1. Research: A possible invention is discovered.

2. Invention Disclosure: The written notice of a possible invention is send to the TTO. This starts the formal process.

3. Assessment: The period of normally two months where the TTO reviews the invention disclosure.

4. Protection: The intellectual property rights are usually secured by filing a patent.

5a. Marketing: The TTO staff identifies potential companies that could be interested in the invention.

5b. Form a spin-out: If a new spin-out has been chosen as the optimal path, the TTO will assist the founders in creating the spin-out.

6. Licensing: A license agreement is made between Aarhus University and an established company or the spin-out company.

7. Commercialisation: The company licensing the invention continues the advancement of the invention towards a final product.

8. Revenue: Revenues (net income) received by Aarhus University are distributed with 1/3 to investors, departments and the university each.
