Postdoc in genomic prediction in cattle 957703

A postdoc position in genomic prediction in cattle is available at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics (QGG) at Aarhus University. The postdoc will primarily focus on improving genomic prediction models by incorporating variants from next generation sequences prioritized based on biological information and/or phenotype-genotype association statistics. Research should link quantitative genetics, animal breeding, functional annotation, omics data to improve genomic prediction models in cattle. Furthermore, this position will provide expertise in applying and develop pipelines, computational tools, algorithms, and statistical approaches to a wide array of genomic data. The position is available from April 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

There is funding for 2 years of employment. In case further external funding is procured within the academic area the candidate is estimated obviously qualified for, an extension can be possible for up to a total maximum of 4 years of employment as a postdoc.

Required qualifications 
We are looking for a highly motivated person trained in quantitative genetics, animal breeding, and statistics, having good skills in scientific programming, at ease with Linux and the R language, and having experience in genomic prediction.

1. PhD in Quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, animal breeding /genetics, or equivalent subjects

2. Solid knowledge of quantitative genetics, statistics and animal breeding

3. Previous experience on working with genomic prediction analysis and model development is highly desirable and will be prioritized 

4. Candidates should have a good publication record, commensurate with their research experience

5. Strong analytical, organizational and communication (in English, both oral and written) skills 

6. Ability to work independently in a large and diverse group of researchers, and collaborate with national and international research partners 

About us
QGG comprises about 20 senior staff and a large group of PhDs and postdocs. The center provides a very dynamic and internationally orientated environment with strong collaborations with relevant industrial partners and with several other leading international research groups in the area. Research within QGG includes both basic and applied research on the genetic basis of complex traits in farm animals, plants and model organisms. The core research is development, implementation of advanced statistical, and bioinformatics methods for analysis of genetics problems. The research within QGG is characterized by a very close synergy between method development, basic analyses and application of the developed methods on practical problems across animal species. The center is part of the Department for Molecular Biology and Genetics and is located at the AU Foulum campus (for the locations of the department see http://mbg.au.dk/en/contact/how-to-find-the-department/). Application procedure
Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
