Postdoc for ultrafast surface spectroscopy

The Weidner research group within the Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University seeks to hire a postdoc for the ERC project F-BioIce. Within this project, we will study the structure and dynamics of ice proteins using sum frequency generation spectroscopy. Ice bacteria are the most effective ice nucleators known. Bacteria can use specific proteins at their outer surface to start ice growth – with potential implications for life science, planetary ecosystems and climate.

The starting date is 1. August 2019 and the duration of the employment will be 24 months. An extension of the employment is possible.

Job description
A postdoc in our team will follow how ice proteins exert control over water molecules at interfaces by combining nonlinear optical spectroscopies and advanced modeling. Postdocs in this ERC project will get involved in static and time resolved surface spectroscopic experiments and advanced data analysis including protein modeling. Researchers in our group benefit from several new femtosecond laser systems and the strong community of laser experts, biophysicists and computer modeling experts at Aarhus University. The hired person will work in a truly interdisciplinary environment and with close collaboration with our partners in the United States, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Germany.

Your profile
Outside of having a strong motivation to work on biological interfaces, postdoctoral fellows should have expertise in setting up and performing ultrafast spectroscopies to be considered for the position.

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
